Week 5: Journal Blog E

For this week’s lecture class we were reintroduced to some nursing theories that we have been exposed to a couple of times during our pre-licensure. I was trying to think if it was easier to understand this time around because it has been introduced to us before but while thinking about it before writing this journal post it clicked as to why these theories are easier or somewhat easier to understand… We are evolving as nurses (and somewhat having more time to reflect on our experiences).

Pre-licensure was sixteen months of thinking I just have to get through tomorrow, and the next, and the next. With our current schedule, researching our synthesis topic is still draining but at least we are not trying to learn a textbook and having to go to three days of clinical. Now, we are able to reflect back on our time and apply things we learned from pre-licensure during our time as Master’s students and are now getting to another level of looking at health care, actually analyzing and dissecting the system.

The theories make sense or are easier to digest now because of our clinical exposure to patient care. Now the theories aren’t something that we try to understand conceptually but by looking back at our experiences and realizing what worked with different types of patients.
