Week 3 Journal Blog C

  • Did the reading and video materials for the previous week provide you with any new insights?
    • This week in lecture we watched videos on some community initiatives for promoting a healthier lifestyle. Colorado has always been a state with good memories for me but their video about starting initiatives in a rural, urban, and suburban environment  put the state even higher in my thoughts. The initiatives were using the environment to promote healthy lifestyles and Colorado is the best setting to achieve this in. It is really great to see how healthy lifestyles are becoming important focus for improving people’s overall health.
  • Did the cultural assignment or lab activity provide you with any new insight into the information needed to evaluate client resources?
    • This week we learned about and participated in the Intercultural Development Inventory. I believe the assessment had insightful outcomes and results but initially taking the test, I felt confused about the questions. I know it wouldn’t be ideal to show what the whole quiz is about and what the results mean. However, I wish I had a little bit of an inkling about what I was being tested on and how much inference was going to come out of the questions. I think it’s a useful tool but some of the test questions were oddly worded. Although I know that it was trying to ask the same question in different ways, I felt as though it could still use a little fine tuning based on how the results say so much about our cultural self.
  • Did you gain any insights from your fellow students’ responses to your blog last week?
    • I am learning that we are all feeling similar in our journey through the CM program but that we are also learning a lot about the profession. I think at first we were all a little bit confused but now slowly we are seeing the good we can do with the profession and working together collaboratively to enhance each experience we have during discussions and role scenarios.
