This weeks lab provided some new insight about myself as a Case Manager (CM). At times, role playing in the classroom setting is a little bit difficult to take seriously due to the relationship with peers. However, I have come to the realization that we are getting very close to graduating and to be practicing CM’s soon and that I should take this time to really learn about the profession and practice as much as I can. The role playing in the classroom was helpful and the situation we were given was very true to life. It was very good practice.
I conducted my video interview with a close friend and since her and I often have lighter, less serious atmospheres together, it was kind of difficult to get serious with her. I also realize that when I don’t know the script or background of the person, it is difficult to think of more ideas on the spot. I knew that my friend was dealing with being at risk for diabetes but I not knowing that her physician wanted a follow-up within a year that was supposed to be scheduled by her, the patient, I didn’t know what to say to that aspect and what resource I could refer her to in order for her to remember or be motivated to do it. My friend is fairly conscientious about her health but I imagine a person less likely to seek medical advice to completely just fall off the grid when concerning their health. It was definitely a good experience as well to have someone who I didn’t know extensive medical history about.
